Dr. Chetan Oswal is a United Kingdom trained Foot and Ankle specialist surgeon practising in Pune, India. He has been practising Orthopaedics for the last 12 years and is now working as a dedicated Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic Surgeon. He has been successfully managing patients including elite athletes for practically all problems related to foot and ankle.
Dr. Chetan Oswal is an established expert in the field of Foot and Ankle problems. He finished his graduation (MBBS) from the highly eminent BJ Medical College Pune with the honors of distinction in the 1st year.
After securing Rank 30 in the All India PG entrance examination, he undertook his Orthopaedic training (MS Orthopaedics) at the prestigious Seth G S Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. He passed his residency training with flying colours standing 1st amongst all the Mumbai Colleges and 3rd in Maharashtra.
To further enhance his skills in advanced orthopaedics, Dr. Oswal completed a short stint in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy at KUMC Hospital in Seoul South Korea. He then undertook a comprehensive Knee fellowship involving Arthroscopy and Joint replacement surgeries at Sancheti Hospital, Pune under the able guidance of world-renowned Knee Surgeon, Dr. Parag Sancheti.
However, Dr. Oswal wanted to contribute to the society and Foot and Ankle field was one area where there was a significant dearth in India. His passionate interest in this sub-speciality inspired him to travel to the United Kingdom to achieve his dreams of being an accomplished Foot and Ankle Specialist Surgeon. He has worked diligently for 2 years in popular places in the UK to master the latest techniques and technology in the management of foot and ankle problems including diabetic foot.
Initially, Dr. Oswal started his training at Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport under Dr. Kartik Hariharan who is a highly distinguished Foot and Ankle Consultant and a former president of British Foot and Ankle Society. Later, he worked at world renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London for a year. RNOH hospital is considered as a tertiary referral centre in the entire UK for treatment of complex orthopaedic problems. The Foot and Ankle Unit here is known for treating neuromuscular and complicated deformities.
Finally, Dr. Oswal undertook a fellowship in Diabetic Foot management at the prestigious King’s College Hospital in London. The King’s Diabetes Unit has been running successfully for the last 40 years and is the frontrunner in dictating the treatment of diabetic foot pathology all over the world. He worked in this acclaimed unit with Professor VenuKavarthapu who is considered as a legend in Charcot Foot Reconstruction and is the current President of International Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons.
Currently, Dr. Chetan Oswal is one of the very few doctors who have undergone such extensive fellowships in Foot and Ankle outside India. He is today a proficient surgeon who specializes in numerous problems related to Foot and Ankle such as complex fractures, complex traumatic or neuromuscular deformities and arthritis. He is also well versed with sports injuries around foot and ankle and its management with arthroscopy. He also has a keen interest in diabetic foot management and has a reliable team of diabetologists, podiatrists, plastic surgeon, vascular surgeon and orthotists to cover the entire spectrum of diabetic foot problems.
Dr. Chetan Oswal has numerous publications to his credit and contributed to various reputed journals. He is also attached to many societies, both in India and international, where he interacts with his foot and ankle colleagues. He regularly attends various conferences and meetings across the globe which helps him to keep abreast with the latest developments and technology in this ever-growing field. He is also remarkably passionate about teaching and sincerely teaches and spreads the knowledge to his colleagues and junior orthopaedic surgeons.
Today, Dr. Oswal is attached to many reputed hospitals in Pune and is catering to the entire state of Maharashtra and beyond. He has successfully operated on more than 1000 patients and has become an experienced Foot and Ankle surgeon.
